Knowledge Base – FAQ
What do CC and BCC mean?
When sending an email, CC stands for Carbon Copy and BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy.
CC works in exactly the same way as adding more than one address to the ‘To’ field, each recipient will get the same copy of the email. Everyone in the To and CC fields will be able to see who else the email has been sent to.
CC is when you send an email to multiple people and you want everyone to see who received the email.
BCC is when you send an email and you don’t want the main recipients to see who else got the email.
Is email a secure way of communication?
It depends on which email hosting provider you use. When you use a provider that uses ‘end-to-end encryption’ then only you and the recipient of your email will be able to read the content.
You can use hosting providers like Gmail (Google) which have security measures to ensure your email does not get hacked but Google can still access your private emails.
What should I do if my email is hacked?
The first thing you must do is change all your passwords directly to something more secure. It shouldn’t be a password that you use on any other sites and easy to guess. We recommend you use a password manager app to create secure passwords and keep them safe.
What is the difference between IMAP and POP3?
IMAP and POP3 are known as incoming email protocols. IMAP stores all emails on the server permanently so that they can be synchronized over multiple devices. POP3 on the other hand downloads your emails from the server and deletes them directly from the server, which means the only copy you have will be on the device the email is downloaded onto.
We therefore always recommend using IMAP for your incoming and outgoing emails.
Are email addresses case-sensitive?
No, email addresses can be typed in ‘upper’ or ‘lower’ case letters and will still be delivered to the intended recipient. Just make sure that the email address is spelled correctly.
How can you mail large files?
You may have tried to send an email containing a large file or maybe even a video and got an error message back saying the file was too large. When wanting to send a large file or video you have to make use of a file transfer software.
Can emails be blocked?
Yes, emails can be blocked depending on which email provider you use. Google, Yahoo, and Outlook do offer ways to block senders.
Why do my emails go to spam?
There are a number of reasons why your emails will land in someone’s ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ folder with the most common reasons being you have included attachments, used too many links in the email or you have used spam-triggered words.
Why is my email stuck in the outbox folder?
There can be many reasons for this but the most common ones are that you maybe added an attachment that is too large, you might have antivirus software which is scanning all outgoing emails and prevented the email from being sent, or the server you use for your emails is offline.
Can email addresses be traced?
The answer to this question also depends on which email provider you use. Every email includes what are known as ‘headers’, which are pieces of information about how the email was sent. Once you have an email’s header data, you can use online tools to determine which IP address it was sent from. Some email service providers will include the IP address of the person who actually sent the email, while others, like Gmail, will only show a Google IP address.
Do emails take up space?
Yes, they do but the amount of space depends on how big the attachments of the emails are.
Can email addresses have spaces in between?
No, like any other address on the internet, email addresses can’t have spaces in between words. You can however break up the words by using periods, dashes, or underscores.
Are emails and Gmail the same thing?
Given how popular Gmail is, you can’t be blamed for thinking that is the same as emails but they are not. Email is a technology used for sending electronic messages, while Gmail is a service provided by Google to send emails.
Do emails use data?
To download an email from the server you will need data to download the email but once the email is downloaded it won’t use any data to read the email, no matter how many times you open up the email.
Can emails be unsent?
It depends on what email provider you use as some providers do have a ‘undo send’ feature whereby you can set how long after an email it can be unsent should you wish to.
How does email spoofing work?
We mentioned email headers earlier and email spoofing works by forging or spoofing email headers to make an email seem like it’s come from a different address than the actual sender. This spoofing technique is used most often by those sending spam or phishing emails.
What is a phishing email?
Phishing emails are those that try to trick you into sending sensitive personal information like bank account details or passwords. They usually look like they come from legitimate businesses like your bank or a government agency, but have used the spoofing technique to disguise their true origin.

So all you need to do is enter the settings for your email account, and you’ll instantly have access to all your old emails.
